Principal's Corner

Welcome to BSLK!

My name is Tracy Hayes Penney and it is an honor to serve as your principal. I am dedicated to providing all children with a wonderful and meaningful kindergarten experience. I believe that all children are special miracles of God and deserve to be educated in a safe, secure, and nurturing environment. I am excited about the unique opportunity to serve as principal of a kindergarten school. Because kindergarten is usually a child’s first experience with public education, it is crucial that each child feels successful and develops a lifelong love for learning.Big Spring Lake Kindergarten is a very child-centered, nurturing learning environment.

Kindergarten is such an important year for students and a great time for families to become involved and active in their child’s education. Big Spring Lake Kindergarten welcomes parents and grandparents to become our learning partners and volunteer to assist students and teachers as often as possible. All parents are encouraged to join the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and help support school activities and projects.

My educational background and teaching experiences have helped me grow as an instructional leader. I was raised in Marshall County and graduated from Boaz High School. I earned my bachelor's and master's degrees in Early Childhood Education (Jacksonville State University and University of Alabama) and taught kindergarten and 1st grade for 12 years in the Guntersville City Schools, Dothan City Schools, and Bay District Schools in Panama City, Florida prior to completing my administrative certification.  I served as assistant principal at Blountsville Elementary School for two years and principal of Sloman Primary School at Douglas for three years before joining the BSLK Team in 2003.  I feel blessed to be part of the Big Spring Lake family and I love working in the Albertville City School System!

My husband, John, and I have three children: Jamie Penney Seymour, who teaches 4th grade at Cherokee Elementary School in Guntersville, Jessica Penney Rainer, who is a nurse at UAB in Birmingham, and Jay Penney, who is atending Snead State Community College.  We also have six beautiful grandchildren:  Ella, Lizzie, Samantha, Lilah, Everitt and Amelia. We are active members of Albertville First Baptist Church.  John owns and operates Bloom Farm, a wholesale nursery specializing in native and wildlife plants and fresh cuts.  We are a very blessed and thankful family that enjoys camping, hiking, reading, traveling, church activities, and spending time together.

Feel free to contact me if I can help you in any way.
